It is a good way of preventing bacteria and parasites (red mites, feather mites and lice) from multiplying on birds’ bodies. It also neutralises unpleasant odours. \n \nThe white colour of the sand helps the birds to preserve their original colouring. The added pieces of oystershells serve as a source of calcium and other minerals.
